Description/Job Summary

To design new products and improve existing products in accordance with Pride’s procedures and protocols, mentor less experienced engineers, and drive continuous improvement within Research & Development (R&D)


•Design and analyze complex motor control systems and electronic assemblies
•Develop, release and revise electrical drawings and schematics
•Ensure designs are safe, effective, manufacturable, reliable and meet quality system compliance
•Ensure designs meet Superior Product at Reduced Cost (SPARC) initiatives
•Perform inspections, verification and validation testing
•Meet and fulfill project timelines and budgets
•Serve as technical project lead with outside design partners and suppliers
•Coach and teach advanced skills and techniques
•Assist in continuous improvement of design procedure and protocol to help drive design efficiency
•Assist management in championing change within Pride
•Ensure all safety and security rules are strictly observed and any accidents, incidents or injuries are promptly reported to management
•Attend the Annual C-TPAT Security Training
•Focus on continuous improvement, and consistently demonstrate good business judgment
•Work effectively with all Pride departments to exceed internal and external expectations
•Pride retains the discretion to modify duties and/or assign other duties as necessary

Must have the ability to:

•Use electrical tools (i.e. multi-meter, oscilloscope, soldering iron and crimp tools), hand tools and standard power tools
•Mentor, lead, and inspire entry-level engineers
•Read and comprehend moderately complex work instructions
•Prepare and build prototypes
•Prepare and present summary reports
•Travel internationally at least twice a year for up to 2 weeks at a time

Must have:
•Relentless drive to achieve advancement and continuous improvement
•Strong working knowledge of:
•8/16/32 Bit Microcontrollers
•Analog and digital circuit/circuit board design and Association Connecting Electronics Industries (IPC) standards
•Software tools for circuit design and simulation (i.e. PSpice, OrCAD Layout, OrCAD Capture, Electronics Workbench)
•Electromagnetic Compatibility/Electromagnetic Immunity (EMC/EMI) principles and techniques for immunity and suppression of electrical noise
•Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel
•Excellent web navigation skills
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Skills

•Intermediate working knowledge of:
•American National Standards Institute – Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (ANSI-RESNA) standards preferred
•UL 60601-1 Medical Electrical Equipment standard preferred
•Relevant European and International standards preferred
•Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Access and Visio preferred
•Strong working knowledge of:
•C and Assembly language programming preferred
•The following serial communication protocols: USB, CAN, RS232, I2C, 1Wire preferred
•DC-DC and AC-DC Converter Design preferred
•Lead Acid, Lithium Ion and NiCd battery charger design preferred
•LCD/LED Display and User Interface Design preferred
•Wireless Communication Design (IE 802.11, Bluetooth, ZigBee) preferred
•MEMS devices preferred
•Lift/push/pull 40 lbs preferred

Required Experience

•At least 7 years of experience in designing control systems and electronic assemblies
•At least 5 years of engineering experience in an environment supporting design, manufacturing, technical service and technical processes

Preferred Experience

•Current or previous successful employment experience with Pride Mobility Products Corporation preferred

Required Education

•Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics or Computer Science with a minor in Electrical Engineering

Preferred Education

•Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
